A person with bulimia nervosa is further classified as either, purging type, or the non purging type.
There are criterion a person must meet in order to be classified as bulimic.
For a person to be classified Bulimic they must have reoccuring episodes of binge eating, reoccurent behaviours in order to prevent weight gain. These symptoms must occur for on average twice a week for three months in order for a diagnosis.
Bulimia Nervosa is influence by both chemical and environmental facotrs. Some people are both with an inherited predisposition for bulimia, particularly where addiction is in the genes.
You may also be at an increased risk, if your sister, mother, friend or family member is bulimic, not due to genetics however these factors may trigger someone to become bulimic.
Bulimia Nervosa like all other eating disorders is very complex, physically, emotionally and psychologically.
